    Abstract:

    This study conducts a preliminary analysis of waveform data from a series of explosive events that occurred in Tianjin harbor on August 12, 2015, which were recorded by 23 short-period seismometers of the China Seismograph Network in Tianjin. Four explosive events were identified using the envelope method and wave matching method, and their locations were determined by applying the master event location algorithm. Analysis results show that the first explosion occurred at 23:34:04 on August 12, 2015, and a larger blast then occurred after 1.77 s. The third event was the largest and occurred 34.11 s after the first event, and the last explosion occurred 86.33 s after the first. The second and third explosions occurred 65~70 m apart, and the second explosion was 160~170 m from the fourth. This paper also compares waveform data of explosions, mine collapse, nuclear explosion, and a natural earthquake in the time and frequency domains, respectively, and results show that there are strong differences between the seismic phase characteristics of these events.
